The recent Equifax network intrusion may have impacted approximately 143 million U.S. consumers. Below are some tips on how to keep your information safe.
Check Your Information
Equifax has created a website for consumers to determine if their personal information has been impacted. Visit www.equifaxsecurity2017.com and enroll in the complementary credit file monitoring and identity theft protection if your information was compromised.
Additional Safety Measures
You can place a credit or security freeze on your credit report if needed. The freeze makes it more difficult for identity thieves to open new accounts. It can also delay your ability to obtain credit as additional safety measures are placed on your account.
Continually Monitor Your Accounts
Monitor all bank, credit card and insurance statements for fraudulent transactions.
More information on protecting yourself from identity theft can be found on the FTC website at https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0497-credit-freeze-faqs.
